The Government will provide $6.4 million over five years (including $1.6 million in 2004-05) to establish eight trade and industry export hubs in Launceston, Bega, Tweed Heads, Ballarat, Darwin, Port Augusta, Bundaberg and Carnarvon. The provision includes $0.3 million in capital funding in 2004-05.
The export hubs will be established by creating new offices, expanding some existing TradeStart offices and co-locating some TradeStart and AusIndustry offices. This will provide additional assistance for businesses in regional Australia to capitalise on opportunities arising from Australia’s new free-trade agreements with the United States, Singapore and Thailand.
This measure was announced on 26 September 2004 as part of the Government’s election commitment Supporting Australian Exporters.

The Government provided an additional $30.0 million over three years (including $10 million in 2004-05) for the Export Market Development Grants scheme. The scheme reimburses small and medium sized Australian businesses for a proportion of eligible export promotion costs.
As the scheme is expected to be underspent in 2004-05, the Government has rescheduled the $10 million additional funding for 2004-05 to 2005-06, resulting in total additional funding of $20 million in 2005-06.
This measure was announced on 1 October 2004 as part of the Government’s election commitment Trade — Creating Jobs for Australians.
